
None of them have plans to reopen before next year at the earliest. While some venues in the state, like the Bushnell in Hartford, can seat almost 3,000 patrons when filled, the producing theaters are physically smaller spaces, and many can seat only around 500 at full capacity.

Then the same thing happened with “South Pacific” in 2021. “South Pacific” remained on the 2020 schedule for summer, then as a fall event, until it was clear that the Goodspeed could not produce any musicals that year. The show was just about to begin rehearsals, and sets were already being constructed, just as COVID hit. After holding onto hope that it could stage a full musical this year, Goodspeed finally removed “South Pacific” after a series of announced postponements that date back to the spring of 2020.
